Russia is restricting the use of its airspace for aircraft associated with or registered in the UK, including transit flights, Rosaviatsiya said
On Thursday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, speaking in Parliament over Russia’s special operation to demilitarise Ukraine, said London was banning Aeroflot’s operations in the UK.
Rosaviatsiya said Russia had sent an offer to the UK aviation authorities to consult on flights between the countries, and they had refused.
“Yesterday, in accordance with the norms of international law, a proposal was sent to the UK aviation authorities to hold consultations in order to discuss the performance of flights between the two countries. A negative reply was received this morning from UK counterparts”, – the statement said.
The ministry added that this was grounds for the Russian side to take mirror measures in accordance with the provisions of the intergovernmental agreement on air communication between Russia and Great Britain in order to observe the principle of parity and equal rights for airlines.
