Lukashenko says Ukraine knew about the upcoming special operation in Donbass, mentions issue of recognizing DPR and LPR on the agenda of the Belarusian leadership

The military leadership of Ukraine was informed about the special operation of Russian troops in the Donbass, but did not take any action, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

According to the Belarusian leader, after conducting joint exercises with Russia on the territory of the country, he “personally suggested” to Russian President Vladimir Putin to leave a certain number of armed forces in the south of Belarus.

“Putin agreed. I emphasize that he told me: “You are right, we must leave. This is another chance for crazed politicians in Ukraine to draw the appropriate conclusions. Maybe they will understand that they need to sit down at the negotiating table and make decisions about peace. The fraternal peoples should not fight,” the BelTA state agency quotes Lukashenko as saying.

He specified that on Thursday night, a representative of the military leadership of Ukraine “asked for a conversation.”

On Thursday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a televised address to citizens, said that in accordance with the UN Charter, with the approval of the Federation Council and in pursuance of friendship and mutual assistance treaties with the DPR and LPR, he decided to conduct a special military operation in Donbass.

The issue of recognizing the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics is on the agenda of the leadership of Belarus, said head of state Alexander Lukashenko.
According to him, in the near future the country will do “as it will be necessary for both it and Russia.”
