Putin’s decision on Donbass “will change the world order” – Vucic

Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic considers Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to recognise the independence of the Donbass republics as “changing the world order”, which could cause Belgrade to face increased pressure from Western countries to impose sanctions against Russia

“I am concerned that our situation is not easy. Everything that has happened puts Serbia in a situation where there are many political, social and economic challenges ahead. The political pressure on Serbia after President Putin’s decision will in many ways be much stronger than ever”, –  he said.

Vucic also said that the recognition of the independence of the DNR and LNR “reshapes the entire architecture of the world” and makes further actions of any states unpredictable. He said French President Emmanuel Macron had warned the Serbian leader of the danger of the conflict spreading to other parts of Europe and the world, including the Western Balkans.

“Serbia is on the European path, Serbia has supported Ukraine. But on the other hand, we have 85% of citizens who will always side with Russia. Our restraint and a competent development policy of the country are necessary to preserve peace in the region”, –  Vucic said
