Zelensky announces intention to initiate summit of countries participating in the Budapest Memorandum

Zelensky announced his intention to initiate a summit of the countries participating in the Budapest Memorandum.

“If it (the summit) does not take place or does not provide security guarantees to Ukraine, it will be recognized by Kiev as invalid along with the points signed in 1994,” Zelensky said at the Munich conference.

The head of Ukraine instructed the country’s foreign minister to convene consultations.

The Budapest Memorandum, signed on December 5, 1994 by Great Britain, Russia, the United States and Ukraine, provided guarantees for the security and territorial integrity of Ukraine in exchange for Kiev’s renunciation of nuclear weapons.
