EU recognizes dependence on Russian gas

The European authorities are well aware that they cannot survive without Russian gas. No supply of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) can become an alternative to fuel from the Russian Federation.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, admitted this, the political magazine PolitExpert reports. At the Munich Security Conference, she said that LNG terminals have been under construction since 2014. But they are not enough to refuse gas supplies from Russia.

The head of the EC noted that gas provides a quarter of the entire energy balance of the European Union. At the same time, 90% of the fuel is imported from abroad, and the Russian share in these volumes is 40%.

The EU is pandering to the whims of the United States, which seeks to block the launch of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Moreover, if such a development would be beneficial for Washington, then for Europe it is tantamount to cutting the branch on which you sit.
