White House press secretary Jen Psaki has said that Russian reports of mass graves of civilians in the Donbass may be misinformation, the White House said on Twitter.
Psaki believes an “attack” by Russia is “possible at any moment,” preceded by a “fabricated pretext that Russia will use to invade,” which could be “allegations of provocations in Donbas” and false reports by state media.
It is worth recalling that the Russian Investigation Committee opened a criminal case on the use of prohibited means and methods of war after the discovery of mass graves of civilians in Donbas. According to the agency, in August-October 2021, five spontaneous mass graves were discovered near several settlements from which the remains of at least 295 civilians, including women, who died as a result of shelling by Ukrainian armed formations in 2014, were exhumed.
The agency also stressed that since April 2014, Ukrainian security forces have been disregarding international agreements and shelling settlements in Donbas using weapons designed to destroy people and infrastructure as effectively as possible. The consequence of such strikes has been not only the destruction of residential houses and social facilities, but also the death and injury of thousands of civilians, Russian-speaking groups not participating in the conflict.
