Modern Russia has the greatest military potential since the collapse of the Soviet Union, experts from the Australian newspaper The Australian said.
Analysts at the International Institute for Strategic Studies noted that the Russian military and defense industry suffered in the early 1990s, but closer to 2010, Moscow invested heavily in the modernization and re-equipment of its armed forces, “completely updating the tank fleet and heavy artillery systems, as well as transforming naval forces”.
“The military budget of Russia in 2021 amounted to at least $62.2 billion, only the US spent $754 billion more on defense, China $207.3 billion and the UK $71.6 billion,” writes The Australian, reports TASS.
Military experts noted that the main part of the Russian army is professional soldiers serving under the contract. In addition, Russia has effective mobile air defense systems.
“Perhaps less progress has been made in the modernization of army equipment, but the ground maneuvering capabilities of Russian troops, nevertheless, significantly exceed the military capabilities of other countries,” the Australian analysts concluded.
