Politico: US fails to agree sanctions against Russia with allies

The White House has not yet been able to agree with US allies on a number of issues regarding sanctions restrictions against Russia in the event of Moscow’s “attack” on Ukrainian territory, the American newspaper Politico writes.

“The West is ready to give a decisive answer to Russia in the indicated development of events. However, even at this late stage of the crisis, US and European officials are still trying in closed consultations to agree on how tough sanctions against Moscow should be and when exactly to impose them”.

Politico experts note that the ongoing transatlantic and European consultations indicate that, for legal, logistical and political reasons, the sanctions packages are unlikely to be completely identical.

“US sanctions will definitely be tougher and will have a wider scope than the measures that other countries and the EU are developing,” the experts concluded.

As News Front previously reported, representatives of the Republican Party presented new legislative initiatives that propose imposing sanctions against Russia and participants in the Nord Stream 2 project, as well as providing additional financial assistance to Ukraine.
