Head of Russian Finance Ministry says Western sanctions cannot harm Russia

Potential sanctions from Western countries will not be able to harm the Russian economy, said the head of the Russian Ministry of Finance Anton Siluanov.

“According to SWIFT, the latest information from Western countries has appeared that they themselves understand the absurdity of this whole situation, since we will suffer, but they will also suffer. If they want to suffer so that we can all suffer together, then perhaps this is justified. But it seems like common sense wins, I read information that the issue of disconnecting from SWIFT is, in any case, being postponed. Although nothing is impossible, and their decisions, we see, are reviewed quite often”, Interfax quotes Siluanov.

As News Front previously reported, the European Union and the United States did not include Russia’s disconnection from the SWIFT system in the package of sanctions against Moscow. Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, said that Moscow has its own financial data transmission system prepared by the Central Bank in case Russia is decided to be disconnected from the SWIFT system.
