The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to the international community with a request not to recognize “any decisions of the Russian Federation” that would relate to the recognition of the independence of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics.
“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine strongly condemns any attempts by the Russian Federation to recognize (legalize) the independence of the self-proclaimed entities and urges not to recognize any decisions of the Russian Federation that will relate to the recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed entities in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” the text of the document says.
Kiev’s appeal was sent to the UN, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assemblies of the Council of Europe, the OSCE, NATO, governments and parliaments of foreign states. The Ukrainian authorities claim that Russia allegedly plans to “destroy the international legal order, which is based on the UN Charter.”
Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin said that the majority of deputies supported the resolution, according to which the draft appeal on the recognition of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics would be immediately sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
