Sweden is not going to become part of the North Atlantic alliance. The West’s attempt to inflame the situation around Ukraine and demonize Russia does not affect this position in any way.
This was stated by Swedish Secretary of State Karin Wallensten in an interview with Politico newspaper, Izvestia reports. She noted that her country is ready to be a partner of the military bloc, but does not intend to join NATO.
Wallensten stressed that Sweden’s security policy has long been defined and cooperation with the alliance is not part of it. In addition, she drew attention to the fact that at a time when there are a lot of potentially dangerous points in the world for starting a war, stability is more important than ever.
It is worth noting that Stockholm very confidently adheres to the chosen course. Most European powers are either already members of NATO or dream of becoming a member of the alliance. At the same time, Sweden puts its own interests above the interests of third countries.
