U.S. to strengthen NATO contingent in Poland

The United States will deploy 3,000 troops to Poland in the coming days. This is reported by Reuters, citing four US officials.

The interlocutors of the agency noted that the decision to strengthen the eastern flank of NATO was made in order to reassure the alliance’s allies in Europe.

The agency recalls that on the eve of the White House, a meeting was held between President of the United States Joe Biden and national security advisers, at which the growing tension between Russia and Ukraine was discussed. In particular, they talked about tightening rhetoric from Moscow, the entry into the Black Sea of six ships of the Russian Navy and the transfer of additional Russian military equipment to Belarus. The Biden administration concluded that the Ukrainian crisis could soon reach a “critical point.”

Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at a meeting with his British counterpart Ben Wallace about the aggravation of the military-political situation in Europe due to the escalation of tension around Ukraine.
