The European Union and the United States did not include Russia’s disconnection from the SWIFT system in the package of sanctions against Moscow, Reuters writes.
According to agency sources, Russia’s disconnection from the SWIFT international interbank system was no longer actively considered as an instrument of pressure after Washington and Brussels received objections from European states.
According to Bloomberg, possible sanctions restrictions that will affect financial institutions, in particular VTB or Sberbank, will be accompanied by certain exceptions that will reduce the damage to American and European companies.
Earlier, Deputy Head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev expressed confidence that Russia would not be cut off from the SWIFT international banking system, since this is not beneficial to anyone. However, the politician stressed that Moscow has its own financial data transmission system, prepared by the Central Bank in case Russia is decided to be disconnected from the SWIFT system.
