Europe is not on the brink of full-scale war – Borrell

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel sees an invasion of Ukraine by Russia as impossible

“I would not say that we are standing on the brink of a full-scale World War II-style war. Because I do not believe that Russia will invade Ukraine – like Hitler invaded the Soviet Union in 1941”, –  the EU diplomatic chief said.

At the same time, Borrell called the conflict around Ukraine “the most critical moment since the Cold War”. And, in a manner familiar to the West, accused Moscow of allegedly pressuring Kiev.

“What matters to Russia is not Ukraine, but the new security architecture in Europe”, –  Borrel added
