Volker said that Kiev should not count on NATO protection

Ukraine should not count on the protection of the North Atlantic Alliance in the event of a possible conflict with Russia, said former US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker.

Volker recalled the fifth article of the Charter of the North Atlantic Alliance, which implies that the allies will immediately stand up for the defense of a member state of the organization in the event of an “attack” by the enemy. According to him, the situation with Ukraine is completely different, since it is not a member of NATO.

“Thus, NATO is signaling that it will not do this for the sake of a country that is not part of the alliance. And Ukraine is such a country. Therefore, NATO has no obligations to it”, Volker said on the air of Channel Four, RIA Novosti reports.

Over the past few months, the United States and Britain have been actively sponsoring Ukraine with various types of weapons. Washington, London and a number of other Western “partners” of Kiev determine this by the fact that Russia is allegedly preparing an “invasion” of Ukrainian territory.

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov has repeatedly rejected such accusations, since they have absolutely no evidence and are based on publications in foreign media. According to him, Moscow moves troops exclusively on its territory and does not threaten anyone.
