The main topic of negotiations between US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was the situation that has currently developed around Ukraine, the press service of the White House reported.
“The leaders discussed ongoing diplomatic and deterrence efforts in response to the ongoing Russian military build-up near Ukraine’s borders, reaffirmed support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and their commitment to preventing Russia from using energy resources as a weapon,” the White House said.
It is noted that Biden and Scholz declared “commitment to close cooperation on the issue of challenges from China and to further promote stability and prosperity in the western Balkans.” In addition, the American leader reaffirmed his desire to strengthen bilateral relations between Washington and Berlin.
As News Front previously reported, Scholz will meet face-to-face with Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 15. It is expected that the parties will discuss the situation around Ukraine, as well as issues of providing Russia with security guarantees to Western countries.
