“Put an end to it”: Biden threatened Nord Stream-2

US President Joe Biden said that in the event of an escalation of the situation in Ukraine, Washington will “put an end” to the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, writes RIA Novosti.

Earlier it was reported that the situation in Ukraine became one of the main topics of Biden’s negotiations with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The parties stressed their commitment to “preventing Russia from using energy resources as a weapon.”

“If Russia invades, if its tanks cross the border of Ukraine again, then there will be no Nord Stream-2, we will put an end to it […] I promise you that we can do it,” Biden said during a press conference on results of negotiations with the German Chancellor.

In the past few months, the West has been actively sponsoring Ukraine with various types of weapons. The United States, Britain and a number of other countries claim that they are trying to “protect” Kiev from Russia’s “invasion” of Ukrainian territory in this way.

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov has repeatedly rejected such accusations, since they have absolutely no evidence and are based on publications in foreign media. According to him, Moscow moves troops exclusively on its territory and does not threaten anyone.

The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline was built from the coast of Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea. Its total capacity is about 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The process of certification of the pipeline is currently underway. All procedures are expected to be completed by the end of the first half of 2022.

Sergey Makogon, CEO of the GTS Operator of Ukraine, said that Kiev is doing “everything possible” to stop the certification process for the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 .
