Berlin has handed over 5,000 helmets to Kiev as arms supplies are currently severely limited, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told The Washington Post.
“Ukraine asked to send helmets and we responded to this request. Secondly, there are strict export criteria that we adhere to when exporting weapons to crisis regions. There is a long continuity of German export restrictions on weapons, which is what the previous government did,” said the German Chancellor.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said they did not intend to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine. Instead, Berlin will provide Ukraine with five thousand military helmets. According to the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, this gesture “has a symbolic meaning.”
While Berlin refuses to sponsor Kiev with weapons, the United States continues to supply Ukraine with a huge amount of military aid. As News Front previously reported, the eighth plane from Washington arrived in Kiev, carrying 86 tons of weapons.
