The Japanese authorities intend to work closely with the United States to resolve the issue of imposing sanctions restrictions against Russia in the event of an “invasion” of Ukraine, said Hirokazu Matsuno, Secretary General of the Japanese Cabinet of Ministers.
“Tensions are rising, unpredictability persists. There is a possibility of sharp turns. We will closely coordinate our position with the United States in deciding what strong actions can be taken, but for now I would like to refrain from discussing the specific content of such measures”. Matsuno said during a press conference.
Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stressed that Tokyo plans to adhere to the common policy of the Group of Seven on the situation around Ukraine.
Recently, foreign media have been massively disseminating information that Moscow is allegedly preparing an “attack” on Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov has repeatedly denied such accusations. The Kremlin spokesman stressed that the Russian Federation moves troops exclusively on its territory and does not threaten anyone.
