Lukashenko will ban cargo transit from Lithuania

In response to the negative policy of Vilnius, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko decided to ban the transit of cargo from Lithuania, which will deal a heavy blow to many businesses of the country and its relations with Ukraine, says the chief of the analytical portal RuBaltic.ru, Alexander Nosovich

“This is a big blow to Lithuania economically and politically. After all, Lithuania has for many years sought to develop foreign economic cooperation with Ukraine for political reasons, because the political alliance of the two states must be supported by serious foreign economic ties”, –  the expert said.

A ban on freight transit would hit particularly hard two of the biggest Lithuanian taxpayers – the Achema fertilizer plant and the Mazeikiai oil refinery. Therefore the transit of their products, which used to go primarily to Ukraine via Belarus, will be interrupted.

Alexander Nosovich concluded that all logistic connections between Ukraine and Lithuania, built during 15 years, will be broken.
