U.S. and Slovakia sign military cooperation agreement

The United States and Slovakia signed a military cooperation agreement in Washington that will allow Washington to use two air bases and other military installations in Slovakia.

“We have signed similar agreements with many of our NATO allies because we believe that closer defense cooperation is in our interests, the interests of our allies, and the interests of security and stability throughout Europe”, said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

According to him, the agreement concluded does not imply the establishment of permanent US bases in Slovakia.

According to the documents, the US military will be able to use the Malacky-Kuhinya and Sliac airbases, as well as other military facilities in Slovakia. In exchange, the army of the republic will receive funding from the United States in the amount of 100 million dollars.

It is noteworthy that this agreement was severely criticized by politicians and the public in Slovakia. The leader of the Social Democrats, former Prime Minister Robert Fico, said earlier that the US military wants to get closer to the Russian borders through such agreements.
