Ukraine’s demands towards Germany to abandon the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline and provide Kiev with lethal weapons are becoming more insistent and hysterical, said Bundestag deputy, member of the parliamentary committee on climate protection and energy from the Alternative for Germany faction Steffen Kotre in conversation with TASS.
“The content and tone of the demands of the Ukrainian side, unfortunately, are becoming more and more hysterical. Just recently, the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany drew completely disproportionate historical parallels. We must again return to a calm and businesslike dialogue. Ukraine can no longer be supported unilaterally if it does not fulfill its part of the Minsk agreements”, Kotre said.
According to him, the supply of weapons to Ukraine could become a “fatal political signal” and aggravate the situation. The German deputy stressed that Russia wants nothing more than to “allow the further expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance to its borders.”
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said they did not intend to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine. Instead, Berlin will provide Ukraine with five thousand military helmets. According to the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, this gesture “has a symbolic meaning.”
