Germany records highest number of COVID-19 cases

Over the past day, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection in Germany increased by 236,120, which was the highest since the beginning of the pandemic, TASS reports.

According to the Institute of Virology. Robert Koch, the previous anti-record was set on February 2, when 208,498 cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Germany per day. In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, COVID-19 has been found in 10,422,764 residents of Germany.

According to experts, the vast majority of patients are infected with the omicron strain of coronavirus. At the moment, quarantine restrictions are in place in Germany, but they are milder than during the periods of the first and second waves of COVID-19. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz plans to achieve the introduction of mandatory vaccination in the country.

Analysts at the Institute for German Economics in Cologne reported that over the past two years, the German economy has suffered damage of about 300 billion euros due to the coronavirus pandemic.
