Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis said that at the moment there are no specific dates for Ukraine’s entry into the European Union.
In an interview with TSN, Dombrovskis said that during his visit to Ukraine, he discussed with the country’s Prime Minister Denys Shmygal the implementation of the Association Agreement by Kiev. According to the Vice-President of the EC, the implementation of previous agreements may open the way for “the next possible steps” in the future.
“At this stage, we cannot name specific dates. As I said, we first need to work and use the full potential of the Association Agreement,” Dombrovskis stressed.
Cato Institute Senior Fellow Ted Galen Carpenter noted that increasingly, EU and NATO allies are small, weak and militarily useless dependents who can drag organizations into disadvantageous armed conflicts. In his opinion, the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance should stop the open door policy and become more selective as to which countries are on the “list of allies”.
