US Defense Department spokesman John Kirby has said that Washington is taking token steps to demonstrate its readiness for a military confrontation with Russia, but has no plans to go to war in Ukraine
According to a US Defence Department spokesman, the Pentagon has reduced the deadline for conscripting its troops in response to a possible escalation by Russia.
Kirby notes that the US will not move its military contingent to Ukraine, and accordingly will not go to war with Russian troops.
“The president has made it clear that we will not see US troops in combat with the Russians in Ukraine. He’s made it clear that it’s not on the agenda”, – Kirby noted.
Kirby said the deployment of US troops to Europe would be aimed at reinforcing “a very real US security commitment” to NATO.
