Chile: anti-migrant protests – streets on fire, roads blocked

In the Chilean city of Iquique local residents, including truck drivers, have taken to the streets and blocked the roads in protest against the surge in migration

The protesters were shooting tyres in the middle of the streets, while police officers were trying to confront them and extinguish the fire from police water cannons. A large number of truck drivers have entered the city, thereby causing traffic jams.

Ikike has become the scene of migrant protests. Migration tents have been set on fire in the city as people condemn the increase in migration, especially from Venezuela, amid the spread of the coronavirus.
