Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas demanded that the German authorities “provide assistance” to Ukraine and send lethal weapons to Kiev.
“We call on our German partners to listen to the Ukrainians. Ukraine asked for help. The country needs help in self-defense against the aggressor. Each country has the right to determine its role, and we welcome all efforts to provide Ukraine with any possible assistance”, Kallas said in an interview with the Bild newspaper.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said they did not intend to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine. Instead, Berlin will provide Ukraine with five thousand military helmets. Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk said that this gesture “has a symbolic meaning.”
According to analysts, the American administration took up arms against Germany because of the position of the Berlin authorities on Ukraine. The White House believes that Berlin has become an “unreliable partner” against the backdrop of the fact that the FRG is not ready to supply the Kiev authorities with lethal weapons.
In turn, Estonian Ambassador to Ukraine Kuusk said that Tallinn was ready to transfer American Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Ukraine as soon as possible.
