Austrian Vice Chancellor and leader of the Austrian Greens Werner Kogler said that EU sanctions against Russia should include the operation of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
“Nord Stream-2 is on the agenda of European foreign policy, while partners in the Austrian government coalition – the Greens and the Austrian People’s Party – place different emphasis on this gas pipeline”, Kogler said on the air of the ORF 2 TV channel.
According to the Austrian Deputy Prime Minister, the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline should be included in the sanctions list so that the European Union has the opportunity to influence Moscow in the event of an “escalation in Ukraine.” It is worth noting that, according to experts, sanctions against Russia in the energy sector can have an extremely negative impact on Europe itself.
Recently, the Western media have been regularly claiming that Russia is allegedly preparing an “invasion of Ukraine.” Moscow has vehemently denied all accusations, as they lack evidence. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stressed that Moscow moves the military exclusively on its territory and does not threaten anyone.
