Western actions led to rapprochement between Russia and China – Russian ambassador to UK

The unfriendly actions of Western countries have had a positive effect on cooperation between Moscow and Beijing, said Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin.

“We have the best relationship with China right now. This is probably the best period in our relationship ever. We are under increasing pressure [from the West], China is also facing the same pressure from NATO member states, especially the United States. I am sure that they are pushing us closer to each other,” the diplomat said in an interview with The Sunday Times.

Kelin noted that at present Russia is actively cooperating with China in order to implement joint projects in various sectors of the economy, including the gas sector. The diplomat stressed that China is an extremely desirable partner in terms of gas and oil supplies, as it is a country with a huge market where there is high demand.

“We can build even more pipelines to China than to Europe, and this will be more profitable, reliable and calm for us than the situation with Nord Stream 2,” Kelin summed up.

As News Front previously reported, the UK plans to impose new sanctions against Russia. British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss said that London is considering introducing new restrictions against the backdrop of “the situation around Ukraine.”
