Russian Senator says threat of sanctions is more effective than their direct implementation

Senator of the Russian Federation Alexei Pushkov noted that sanctions only make sense when they are a threat. According to him, after their application, the second party “accepts them as a reality.”

“If the United States uses sanctions such as disconnecting Russia from SWIFT, stopping operations with Russian public debt and taking measures against the dollar transactions of Russian banks, then by applying these sanctions, they will lose any other leverage on the Russian Federation and its policies,” Pushkov said. in an interview with Ukraina.ru.

According to the senator, such sanctions restrictions are the most extreme measures. If such restrictions are introduced preventively, it will mean that the West has declared a total war on Russia, after which a complete break in relations is possible, Pushkov emphasized.

As News Front previously reported, the British Foreign Secretary announced the possibility of introducing new sanctions against Russia from London. According to The New York Times experts, sanctions against Moscow in the economic sphere may threaten the stability of the global financial system.
