Research data show that people who have undergone Sputnik Light revaccination have 100% protection against the Omicron strain of COVID-19 for three months, said the director of the Research Center named after Gamalei Alexander Gintsburg.
“75% of those vaccinated [with Sputnik V] contain virus-neutralizing antibodies to the omicron strain. If we take the serum from people who were boosted by Sputnik Light, then within three months after the boost, 100% of people had virus-neutralizing antibodies”, TASS quotes Gunzburg.
According to the expert, it is likely that the strain of coronavirus infection called “omicron” will not be the final stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gintsburg stressed that many other variants of infection regularly occur.
The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the world increased by almost 23.6 million over the week. However, experts note that in a number of countries where the peak incidence occurred in early January, the incidence has dropped sharply.
At the moment, the Russian drug Sputnik V, developed by scientists at the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, has been approved in 71 countries with a total population of about four billion people, which is over 50% of the world’s population. The vaccine is based on the adenovirus platform, which provides high efficiency and safety.
