Double standards: London wants to improve relations with Russia amid arms supplies to Ukraine

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the visits to Russia by Foreign Minister Elizabeth Truss and British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace will help improve relations between London and Moscow.

“After this week, the Prime Minister made it clear in the House of Commons that better relations with Russia are possible, he instructed the foreign and defense ministers to prepare for visits to Moscow in the coming days to negotiate with their [Russian] counterparts. They will be tasked with improving relations with the government of President [Russian Vladimir] Putin and pushing for de-escalation,” Johnson said in a statement released by the office.

Recall that in January, Wallace invited Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to London to discuss security issues. Later, the head of the Russian defense department sent an invitation to his British counterpart to visit Moscow and expressed his readiness to discuss all topical security issues.

In addition, a visit to Moscow by British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss is being prepared. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Truss plans to visit the Russian Federation “within the next two weeks.”

It is worth noting that the visits of Wallace and Truss, allegedly aimed at improving relations with Russia, will take place against the backdrop of arms supplies to Kiev. As previously reported, in the second half of January, the United States and Great Britain sent 15 transport aircraft with weapons to Ukraine.
