Spiegel: Washington considers Berlin an “unreliable partner” because of Germany’s position on Ukraine

The U.S. administration has turned on Germany because of the position of the Berlin authorities on Ukraine. This was stated by German Ambassador to Washington Emily Haber in a letter sent to the German Foreign Ministry, writes Spiegel

According to the newspaper, the diplomat’s letter begins with the words: “Berlin, we have a problem. Haber goes on to detail how Germany is discredited in the United States. According to her, the United States has come to perceive Germany as an “unreliable partner” because of the German authorities’ stance on the Ukrainian issue.

“Not only the media, but also the U.S. Congress views Berlin as a brake when it comes to sanctions. Another reason for the U.S. administration’s frustration is Berlin’s refusal to supply weapons to Ukraine”, – Spiegel wrote, citing Haber’s letter.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that they did not intend to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine. Instead, Berlin will provide five thousand military helmets to Ukraine. According to Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk, the gesture “has a symbolic meaning”
