Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO allies are obliged to offer support to Ukraine
“We provide political support, practical support, we help them modernize their defense institutions, we help them fight corruption, we help them create cyber defense mechanisms. But when it comes to defensive weapons, the allies have different views,” the secretary general told El Pais.
He added, however, that no one is allegedly interested in an armed conflict.
“We suggest [Moscow] sit down and listen to its security concerns. And explore issues such as arms control, nuclear weapons, missiles, military transparency, better channels of political and military communication.”
Speaking about the possibility of neutral status for Ukraine, the secretary general said:
“This issue goes beyond Ukraine.” “Russia wants to sign a legally binding treaty that would block any future NATO membership. We must respect Ukraine’s decision, whether it is for accession or not.”
