The majority of German residents supported the position of the federal government on the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine, writes DPA.
A study by the sociological institute YouGov showed that about 59% of German residents consider the refusal of the German authorities to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine the right decision. It is also noted that 20% of more than two thousand respondents expressed the opposite point of view.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said that Germany did not intend to supply weapons to Kiev. Instead, Berlin will send five thousand military helmets to Ukraine. Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk said that the gesture of the German authorities is a “drop in the ocean” and not military assistance.
Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Opposition Platform – For Life party Ilya Kiva criticized the supply of weapons to Ukraine by the United States. According to him, Western countries systematically pit the Slavic peoples into a bloody war.
