NATO refused to comply with the demand of the Russian Federation not to accept Ukraine into the alliance

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the North Atlantic Alliance is not ready to compromise on Ukraine’s accession to the organization, writes Evropeyska Pravda.

“We have made it clear that we will not compromise on some key principles. And one of them, of course, is that each country has the right to choose its own path,” the NATO Secretary General said during a press conference.

Stoltenberg noted that this applies not only to those countries that have decided to apply for membership in NATO, but also to states that decide not to apply for membership, such as Finland and Sweden.

“It’s about respecting the right to self-determination, and at the end of the day, membership decisions have to be made by consensus of 30 allies. These are fundamental principles, and this is usually reflected in the positions of NATO,” Stoltenberg said.

Earlier it became known that the United States and NATO gave Russia written responses to Moscow’s proposals on security guarantees. It is noteworthy that Washington turned to the Russian side with a request not to publish the White House’s response. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow is ready to refuse to publish the response of the American administration, but will convey to the public its essence and content.
