Germany handed over to the European allies a document with its proposals for sanctions against Russia. Berlin insists that possible restrictions do not affect the energy sector, reports Bloomberg.
Western countries do not stop threatening Russia with various types of sanctions in the event of Moscow’s “invasion” of the territory of Ukraine. US President Joe Biden said he did not rule out the possibility of imposing sanctions restrictions against Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“Germany handed over the document with its proposals to the European allies on sanctions against Russia. The German government demands that possible sanctions over Ukraine do not affect the Russian energy sector,” Bloomberg reported, citing documents.
It is also noted that in the event of Moscow’s “invasion” of the territory of Ukraine, Berlin is ready to support a package of sanctions, which may include freezing assets and a ban on operations for some Russian banks, restrictions on the import of metals and chemicals from Russia, restrictions on investments in Russia, and so on.
In recent months, Western media have been circulating reports that Russia is allegedly preparing an “attack” on the territory of Ukraine and is gathering troops to the borders. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stressed that Moscow moves troops exclusively on its territory and does not threaten anyone. According to him, such messages are “empty and unfounded escalation of tension.”
