Zelensky imposes sanctions against Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on sanctions against Russia, TASS reports.

“To introduce the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated December 30, 2021 “On the application and cancellation of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions),” the document, which was published on the President’s website, says.

Lenpromtransproekt, Geozemstroy, and the Insurance Business Group joint-stock company fell under the sanctions restrictions of Kiev. In addition, the list included the state autonomous institution of the city of Sevastopol “Tourism Development Center”, the fund for social and cultural projects “National Cultural Heritage”. In total, 24 companies are listed in the document.

In addition to companies, Zelensky also imposed sanctions against individuals, including Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Crimea Aleksey Dmitriev, head of the Sevastopol Ministry of Internal Affairs Pavel Gishchenko, and. O. Vladimir Terentyev, head of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Crimea and Sevastopol, Mark Bolshedvorsky, prosecutor of Sevastopol, Alexei Naida, military prosecutor of the Black Sea Fleet, and others.

Sanctions by Ukraine imply temporary restriction of a person’s right to use and dispose of his property; preventing the withdrawal of capital from Ukraine, stopping financial transactions, etc. Restrictions were introduced for a period of five years.

Crimea returned to the Russian Federation following a referendum in 2014. About 97% of the inhabitants of the peninsula were in favor of reunification with the Russian Federation. Despite the fact that the vote was held in accordance with all necessary international norms, Ukraine refused to recognize the results of the referendum and continues to consider Crimea its own, but “temporarily occupied” territory.
