States want to supply arms to Ukraine under the lend-lease

A cross-party group of US senators has proposed for congressional consideration the “Lend-Lease for Democracy Act in Ukraine”

The initiative could remove obstacles to providing military equipment to Kiev and speed up its delivery.

“The law would provide Ukraine with lethal weapons against ‘a Russian threat to its sovereignty'”, –  said Cornyn, a Texas Republican.

Now by law, the US can provide and lease defence items to its allies. But in the case of Ukraine, bureaucratic barriers make existing regulations impractical. Because of this, US senators decided to remove the existing obstacles by streamlining the powers of the US president. It is noted that the supply of arms under the lend-lease fast-track procedure will be available only to Ukraine.

It is not the first time that the government’s lend-lease programme will be used by America. The U.S. used it to supply its allies during World War II with combat supplies, equipment, food, medical equipment and medicines, strategic raw materials, including petroleum products.
