The Russian vaccine Sputnik V demonstrates the best protection against the Omicron strain, according to a joint study by Italy’s leading research centre, the Spallanzani Institute and the Gamaleya Research Center
The unique independent study involved 12 Italian and 9 Russian scientists led by Francesco Vaia, Spallanzani Institute Director, and Alexander Gintsburg, Gamaleya Research Centre Director.
The results showed that those vaccinated with Sputnik V had a titer of viral neutralising antibodies to the Omicron strain 2.1 times higher overall and 2.6 times higher after 3 months compared to two shots of the Pfizer vaccine.
Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of RDIF, commented on the results of the unique study.
“Russia has one of the most effective vaccines against the Omicron strain which will protect against the severe course of the disease and it is certainly a significant advantage that Russia has thanks to the remarkable scientists at the Gamaleya Centre. This is a vaccine that protects the lives not only of Russians but also of people around the world”, – said the Head of RDIF.
