UN Secretary-General António Guterres offered former German Chancellor Angela Merkel a position in the organization. This is reported by the American edition of Politico.
Guterres has proposed to Merkel to chair a “high-level advisory board” on the development and management of global public goods (such as the oceans or the ozone layer),” writes Politico.
It is noted that Merkel has not yet responded to the proposal of Guterres. Experts believe that in addition to an advisory position, the former chancellor may be offered the post of head of the UN on climate change. The current head of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Patricia Espinosa, is set to expire in the summer.
Angela Merkel became the first woman chancellor of Germany and held this post from 2005 to 2021. According to her, the position she held made her fully concentrate on the agenda and always “be ready”, so in retirement she plans to “read and sleep.”
