The head of the German Foreign Ministry is forced to recognize Nord Stream-2 because of the government’s course, reports the FBA “Economy Today”.
The head of the Greens party, Annalena Baerbock, is gradually moving away from harsh statements about the Russian Nord Stream-2 pipeline project. Apparently, the prevailing opinion in the German government about the purely commercial ownership of the gas pipeline project is forcing the German Foreign Minister to follow the same political course as the head of state, Olaf Scholz. This opinion was expressed by the journalist, editor-in-chief of the German online publication World Economy Alexander Sosnovsky.
“Baerbock, as foreign secretary, has a duty to follow the line of the government, not the Greens. Therefore, she has to grit her teeth to express the opinion that prevails in the government. This opinion is unequivocal: Nord Stream-2 is a commercial project that has nothing to do with politics, it should not be tied to politics and definitely cannot become the subject of negotiations or pressure on any side”, the expert said.
Baerbock’s restraint on Nord Stream-2 will ensure her stable position and retention of her position, otherwise it would be more logical for the politician to leave the post voluntarily so as not to fall under the humiliating reduction by the hands of the Cabinet, which is controlled by Olaf Scholz.
“Baerbock will have to comply with the will of the Chancellor or resign,” sums up Sosnowski.
Apparently, the inflated expectations of Russia’s opponents that anti-Russian sentiment in Germany would increase with the coming to power of the Green Party did not come true. The main rival of the Russian pipeline project is gradually being put in its place, explaining the consequences of the escalation of tension between Germany and the Russian Federation with the utmost clarity.
Earlier, News Front talked about what to expect from the negotiations between German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
