Global News: Canada sends special forces to Ukraine

The Canadian Department of Defense has sent a detachment of special forces to Ukraine, Global News reports. The reason was the allegedly growing “tension in relations with Russia”, which is regularly covered by the Western media.

“The deployment of a small contingent of the Canadian Special Operations Regiment occurred due to the fact that diplomatic negotiations aimed at preventing an armed conflict in Ukraine have reached an impasse, and about 100,000 Russian troops remain on the border with Ukraine,” the TV channel reported.

The Canadian unit has been tasked with developing plans to evacuate Canadian diplomatic personnel in the event of a full-scale invasion, Global News sources said. It is also noted that neither the government of Canada nor the official Kiev confirmed the arrival of special forces in Ukraine when they were contacted by the journalists of the TV channel.

Recently, the Western media have repeatedly stated about the possible “invasion” of Russia on Ukrainian territory. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stressed that Moscow is moving troops exclusively on its territory and such reports are “empty and unfounded escalation of tension.”
