Polish readers accuse Warsaw of rising energy prices and cutting off supplies from Gazprom

Readers of the Polish edition of Interia accused the authorities of their country of buying expensive European fuel. They are sure that Warsaw should not have terminated its contractual obligations with Gazprom.

Earlier, the head of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, accused the Russian Federation of manipulating prices on the European gas market. According to him, the reduction in energy supplies “coincided with the aggravation of geopolitical tensions around Ukraine.”

However, the Poles did not share Birol’s opinion, blaming Warsaw for all energy problems. Interia readers emphasized that the Polish authorities themselves decided to abandon the resources of Gazprom and began to buy fuel from European partners three times more expensive.

“Those who concluded long-term contracts with Russia are in an advantageous position, and those who hoped for low spot prices now have to beg Russia to increase supplies,” sztokholm said.

“The Polish oil and gas concern is to blame for buying Russian gas at spot prices: this is in line with the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration,” realpolitik expressed the opinion.

“Gazprom’s share in the European gas market is 40%, and it fulfills its contractual obligations with a margin (+ 13%), that is, suppliers that account for 60% of the market are responsible for the lack of raw materials in the EU,” pytek wrote.

Problems in the energy issue overtook Europe in the autumn due to a sharp increase in tariffs in connection with a record increase in wholesale prices for gas and electricity. Against this background, many EU countries began to resent and demand from Gazprom an increase in transit and a reduction in the cost of fuel. In turn, Moscow has repeatedly emphasized that the Russian side is fulfilling all its obligations under long-term contracts.
