The past week in the United States is called literally hellish for the American president
Biden has not experienced such a number of painful political defeats since black August – the fall of the Kabul regime and the defeat in Afghanistan.
The US manufacturing inflation has reached almost 10%, while consumer dollar inflation has risen to 7%, the highest since 1982. And these are only official calculations – in reality, inflation is much higher. It is exacerbated by another round of shortages and structural labor market problems for which the White House has no answer.
Meanwhile, in the Senate, Biden’s party members themselves dealt him two heavy blows. Centrist Democrats Joe Manchin and Kirsten Sinema have refused to repeal the filibuster rule, which raises the Senate legislative threshold to 60 votes. And they also blocked the adoption of his electoral reform to “federalize” elections with the imposition of mass mail-in voting throughout America.
Another branch of government – already the judiciary – has now finally denied Biden the right to make mandatory vaccination of all employees of medium and large businesses in the United States. True, the judges of the Supreme Court nevertheless decided to sweeten the pill for Biden – and supported his measures to vaccinate health workers. But for everyone else, except civil servants and the military, these requirements no longer apply.
Against this background, the first polls began to appear, where Biden’s ratings had already dipped to 33%. Not only is this the lowest he’s ever been in office, it’s also the lowest presidential approval rating since Bush Jr. and his 25%. And you need to understand that these measurements were carried out in early January – now, against the backdrop of all Biden’s defeats, the ratings may fall even lower.
The international agenda does not save Biden either. The issues of European security raised by Russia have taken his administration by surprise in a revealing way. Now, against the backdrop of the threat of new sanctions against Russian banks, we are already talking about strengthening the military presence of Russia in Cuba and Venezuela, which again comes as a surprise to the Biden team.
Such a development of events does not at all fit into the image of a “peacemaker president”, which immediately after Afghanistan they tried to create around Biden. It also fell into disrepair, as did the slogan of the “return to normality” promised by Biden and never happened. The institutional crisis of American reality continues – and the White House in its current form is its personification.
