The United States is deliberately delaying the launch of Nord Stream-2, writes the FBA Economy Today.
The United States plan to stop the launch of Nord Stream-2 hides the desire of the American establishment to regain influence in Europe. This is evidenced by the statement of the Deputy head of the State Department Victoria Nuland about the alleged joint work with the European Union and Germany, in particular, on the disruption of the launch of the Russian gas pipeline.
Purposeful sabotage of the launch of the gas pipeline can not be expected from the American side. Excessive pressure on European partners is an unaffordable luxury for Washington’s current position on the world stage. In order to avoid a change in the foreign policy vector of Europe to Russia, the Americans intend not to disrupt, but to postpone the launch of the pipeline for a period favorable to them. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko.
“The launch of Nord Stream-2 itself is not critical. It is important when and how it will be put into operation. If this process is slowed down for a year, one and a half, two, then with the current leapfrogging of gas prices, the European economy will begin to crumble. Of course, it will not reach the state of Ukrainian, but Europe is not Ukraine either. People there are used to living differently, and the shock for them will be terrible. Ultimately, they will be forced to play with the Americans, in need of political and economic support from the United States”, explains the expert.
Russia will reorient gas exports to the Asian direction if problems with the launch of Nord Stream-2 continue. Apparently, problems cannot be avoided in connection with the desire of the American establishment to literally take Europe and Germany, in particular, hostage to US geopolitics.
“Decisions can be made up to a certain point, then the window of opportunity closes. And after some time it will be too late for Germany to win back. Therefore, it is important for the United States not to “shoot” Nord Stream-2, but to slow down its launch for some time, so that the possibilities of Germany to play against the Americans are exhausted. Then they will “eat” it even cold, even hot, even warmed up,” sums up Ishchenko.
The negotiation process in Geneva revealed a split in the now collective West. Most of the serious issues regarding the Western world were previously decided by the American representatives themselves with the full confidence of the European Union. The current situation demonstrates the loss of influence by Washington and the desire of the European powers to move from under US supervision to independent control.
Earlier, News Front spoke about the lack of a comparable analogue in Germany to natural gas from Russia.
