The head of the German Foreign Policy Committee, Social Democrat Michael Roth, said the fight against Nord Stream 2 is caused by the desire of the United States to sell LNG
He recalled that the United States, which has its own plans for the European gas market, is very interested in fighting the Russian project.
“Today, much of the criticism of the pipeline is driven by countries’ own interests. After all, the US wants to sell its expensive liquefied natural gas in Europe”, – Roth stressed.
The Bundestag MP noted that the pipeline issue is controversial “even among our partners”.
“We must take this into account and make sure that the pipeline is always included in the pan-European energy strategy”, – the German politician said.
He also called on Russia to give guarantees that gas transit through Ukraine will continue after 2024.
