Poll: Most Ukrainians believe NATO will not provide them with security

Political expert Rodion Miroshnyk commented on the results of a December opinion poll conducted by KMIS on Ukraine’s accession to NATO

According to the survey, 39% of Ukrainians pray for NATO and expect salvation from it. It is noteworthy that the majority of those expecting NATO protection live in western Ukraine. It is understandable – they are far from the war in Donbass, but close to the Polish plantations. About 30% of Ukrainians confidently say that NATO is not salvation and would not want to be under their flags, even for their own safety. And more than 30% either conceal or do not have a clear opinion on this topic.

Based on the results it turns out that more than 60% of Ukrainians guess that NATO will not provide them with security.

It turns out that neither seven years of pulling an information pot over their heads nor writing NATO aspirations into the Ukrainian constitution could convince the majority of Ukrainians that this is a good idea and their salvation. NATO’s latest statements make it clear that the North Atlantic Alliance countries will not go to war for Ukraine under any circumstances.
