NATO-Russia Council meeting ends in Brussels: Summary of meeting

A meeting of the NATO-Russia Council has been concluded at the North Atlantic Alliance headquarters in Brussels

According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, it is a positive sign that all NATO allies and Russia have sat down at the table and started a common discussion, after two years of no dialogue.

For its part, Russia continues to insist that NATO stop admitting new members to its alliance and withdraw troops from neighbouring territories. However, the North Atlantic allies have made it clear that they will not give up defending their borders.

Also, Russia and NATO allies agreed that it was necessary to meet and discuss all issues of concern.

Alliance members called for an “immediate de-escalation of forces from Russia”.
