Ukraine’s ambassador to Berlin, Andriy Melnyk, several months ago called for Ukraine to be nuclear armed. Now he wants the German federal government to work to ensure that Ukraine joins NATO in the near future. According to Austrian analyst Patrick Poppel, such behaviour by a diplomat is unacceptable
“Ambassadors should strive for diplomacy and political détente, not prepare for war. Diplomacy is probably treated differently in Ukraine”, – Poppel said.
Germany should not seek advice from Ukraine on this issue, nor on energy policy.
“It is negative that sentiments against Nord Stream 2 are rising in Germany because of the problems in Ukraine”, – Poppel said.
